Making Photoshop Shapes - 1
We'll start with making Photoshop shapes in the most basic way, with shapes that can be easily modified to make them more interesting.
- Create a new file with File > New.
- Name the file Shape 1.
- Set Width to 1000 pixels.
- Set Height to 1000 pixels.
- Set Resolution to 300 pixels.
- Color Mode RGB Color.
- Background White. OK.
- In the toolbox, click on the foreground colour to open the Color Palette.
Choose a mid-blue and press OK. - In the Layers panel, click on the 'Create a new layer' button.
- In the toolbox, choose the Rectangular Marquee Tool.
- Drag the cursor across the background to draw a rectangle.
The rectangle of 'moving ants' can be moved around by placing the cursor in the middle and dragging the selection around. - To fill with the blue, go to Edit > Fill. Under Contents Use, choose Foreground Color. OK.
- Remove the selection with Select > Deselect.
- At the bottom of the Layers panel, click on the fx button and drop down to Bevel and Emboss.
- Under Structure Style, choose Inner Bevel.
- Adjust the various sliders, such as Depth and Size. Under Shading, Angle and be changed. The other settings should be ignored for now.
- In the left hand column, click on Drop Shadow.
Reduce Opacity to 50% then mess around with the sliders for Distance, Spread and Size. - When satisfied with the effect, press OK.
So here is a basic shape which can be used as a web button or name plaque. If the shape is saved in Layers, then the effect settings can be changed any time.
