The F Screen
The F screen stands for Full Screen Mode and is a useful feature for displaying an image on a dark background and without so many distractions.
Open any image.
Near the bottom of the toolbox there is an icon to change the screen display:
Standard Screen Mode
Maximized Screen Mode
Full Screen Mode with Menu Bar
Full Screen Mode
Maximized Screen Mode positions the image to the centre of the screen, on a grey background, but only goes up to the icons on the sides.
Full Screen Mode with Menu Bar moves the image to the centre of the screen, on a grey background.
The computer menu bar, options bar, toolbox and palettes are still visible.
Shift + Tab will hide the palettes, and bring them back.
The Tab key will hide the options bar, toolbox and palettes, while leaving the computer menu bar.
This is extremely good for having a clear view of an image with no distractions.
• Full Screen Mode provides a black background, with no top menu bar. The Photoshop options bar, toolbox and palettes can be hidden and revealed in the same manner, with Tab and Shift + Tab.
• With Full Screen Mode when no palettes, etc. are showing, just the menu bar put be revealed with Shift + F.
Note
Black is favourite for checking that the edges of an image have been neatly cropped and tidied up.
To move a large image around, hold the space bar and when the cursor changes to the hand tool,
the image can be
• Rather than fiddling about with the small icons, the F key will scroll through the four screen options.
• Items such a Document size and Efficiency are normally found at the bottom left of an image's frame. With the overall grey or black screen they are no longer there. They can still be found in the Info palette, however. With this palette open, click on the small arrow in the top right corner. Choose Palette Options and select the items required; they show up in the Info palette.
In fact any colour can be used as a surround.
- Drag the bottom right corner of the image frame down and to the right to expand the grey around the image.
- Click on the foreground colour in the toolbox and choose the colour you want; it could be black or red or anything.
- Choose the Paint Bucket tool (G).
Shift + click on the grey surround and it will fill in with the foreground colour.
This colour will stay in use for all images until you change it back to a proper mid-grey.
