Create Photoshop Shapes - 4

To create photoshop shapes, one of the Shape tools can be used at first, then the outline can be worked on and modified.

  • Create a new file with File > New.

  • Name the file Shape 1.

  • Set Width to 1000 pixels.

  • Set Height to 1000 pixels.

  • Set Resolution to 300 pixels.

  • Color Mode RGB Color.

  • Background White. OK.

  • From the Shape Tool set, choose the Polygon Tool.

  • In the top options bar, for Sides, enter a value of 7.

  • Click on the small arrow to open the Polygon Options.

  • Enter a Radius of 1" or 3 cm.

  • Check the Star box.

  • Indent Sides By 60%.

  • Drag the cursor on the background to create the star. It will contain the colour set in the Foreground palette.

    The new shape layer can be seen in the Layers panel.

  • Open the Paths panel.

  • At the bottom of the panel click on the Load path as a selection button.
    The path turns into a selection of marching ants.

  • In the Layers panel, click on the Create a new layer button.

  • In the Layers panel, click on the eye for the Shape Layer to turn it off.
    We are left with just the selection shape of the star.

  • Click on the Foreground colour in the toolbox to open the Color Picker.
    Choose a bright red.

  • Go to Edit > Stroke.
    For Width, enter a value of 30 pixels.
    For Location, check Centre. Click OK.

  • In the Layers panel, create another new layer.

  • Change the Foreground colour to a bright blue.

  • Go to Edit > Stroke.
    For Width, enter a value of 10 pixels.
    For Location, check Inside. Click OK.

  • Cancel the selection with Select > Deselect.

  • Make the layer with the red star active.
    Go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur.
    Enter a value of 10 and click OK.

  • Hold Shift and click on the blue and red star layers.
    Merge them with Control + E / Command + E .

  • Go to Filter > Distort > Twirl.
    Enter a Angle value of -60 . OK.

  • Drag the star layer to the Create a new layer button in the Layers panel.

  • Go to Edit > Transform > Scale.

  • Hold Shift + Alt. Place the cursor on one of the corner anchor points.

  • Push the corner into the centre to reduce the size of the new star.

  • Rotate and position the smaller star into the centre of the larger star.

  • Press Enter to apply the Transform.
The image is ready to be flattened.
