How it was done

The original image was in black and white, taken from ground level with a 20mm lens. Geese can be curious birds.

• The larger goose at the front was selected with the Photoshop Pen Tool.

• The selection was transferred to Quick Mask Mode and at 100% size, the edge around the goose was touched up with a Brush.
  
  
  

• Moving from QMM back to a selection, the goose was then put on to a new layer and moved a little to the left.

  This left holes in the background which were repaired with other sections of trees and grass. The Healing brushes and Clone stamp tidied up any joins.

• The white goose was coloured yellow with Selective Color.
  
  
• The frame was made manually.

  The shape for one side was made with the Polygonal Lasso tool, then coloured in two tones with the Gradient tool.

  The four sides were all toned to slightly different densities.

• The four individual sides of the frame were then positioned around the edge of the image, merged; then the frame was given a drop shadow.
  
  
• The layer with the new yellow goose was moved to the top of the stack to place it to the front of the picture.

There are some third-party filters which can make frames easily.
