More Photoshop Backgrounds
The first example of Photoshop backgrounds is again with the Gradient, while the second uses the Cloud filter. - Make a square file 1800px x 1800px @ 300ppi
- In the toolbox, have a yellow foreground colour and white as the background.
- Press G for the Gradient Tool and in the top options bar choose the Linear Gradient.
- Draw a gradient from top to bottom, while holding Shift to keep the line straight.
- Create a new layer and draw another gradient from left to right.
- Set the top layer to Difference mode
- Create a second new layer
- Choose a red foreground colour and using the Radial Gradient draw from the centre out to one of the corners.
- Set the layer to Difference mode
- Create a third new layer.
- Press X to make white the foreground colour and red the background.
- Draw a Reflected Gradient from the middle down to the bottom.
This should give red across the top and bottom and a band of white across the middle. If it is the other way round, check the Reverse box in the options bar and draw the gradient again.
- Set mode to Difference.
- Go to Filter > Distort > Twirl and enter a setting of 400. OK.
Example 2
Try this for creating a Marble Effect.
- Create a new file with a white background.
- In the toolbox, set a foreground colour of dirty pink and a background colour of white.
- Go to Filter > Render > Difference Clouds
- Apply the filter several times with Crtl + F / Cmd + F to accentuate the marble vein effect.
- Create a new layer, and fill it with white.
- Using the same colours, run the filter several times and set the layer to Difference mode.
- Create a new layer, filled with white.
- Choose a blue as the foreground colour and a white background.
- Run the Difference Clouds filters several times and set to Difference mode.
- Create a fourth layer, filled with white.
- Using the same blue and white colours, fill the layer with a Linear Gradient.
- Set to Color mode and invert with Ctrl + I / Cmd + I.
Other modes will give quite a different result.
