Learn to Photoshop
How it was done

create photoshop

Well actually this page is a bit of a tease. It's supposed to be how the images were created in Photoshop. In fact, here are three photographs which have not been touched by Photoshop.

All three scenes were photographed with transparency film, which was then cross-processed.
That means they were not processed in the normal E6 chemicals.

The film was first processed in Black & White chemicals, re-exposed to light then processed in C41 chemicals, which is normally used for colour negative film.

create photoshop The use of film is now a creative choice by arty types, film being no longer at all practical for normal use.

Two of the advantages of using film are firstly, the uniqueness of the look and feel, and secondly, the unpredictability of the outcome.

The technique I've used here does give a punchy and grainy result. Also I'm never sure what the final image will look like until it is printed.

If the result is interesting, then of course that is what was intended all along ;-).

Well there is nothing wrong with someone trying to recreate the effect
in Photoshop, although it's not really possible to program in the inconsistencies.
