How it was done

  • The base image was the woman's portrait.
The face was cut out from the background.

  • The necklace and some of the stray hairs over the forehead were removed with the Healing and Patch Tools, with some help from the Clone Stamp.

  • The skin colour was changed with Curves and Hue and Saturation.

  • The lips were selected with the Lasso Tool and recoloured separately.

  • A new background of pale blue was made.

  • A central area was selected on the blue background with the Elliptical Marquee Tool, given a large feather and lightened to make the hot-spot.

  • The Pixelate Mosaic filter created the pixel effect on the face.

  • A pair of sunglasses was photographed with compatible overhead lighting.
They were resized with Transform to fit the face.

  • A copy of the sunglasses was turned to black, given some Gaussian Blur and positioned as a shadow.

  • As a show of excessive keenness, the shadow was adjusted with a Displacement Map to mould its shape slightly around the curves of the face.

  • A photograph of a circuit board was used for the lenses. The Spherize filter gave them a convex curve.

  • The lens openings of the sunglasses were selected separately. The two different lens shapes were trimmed to fit inside the sunglasses.

  • The Gradient Tool was set with clear at the top and a light grey at the bottom. It was applied to the lenses to give them some shading.
